As I reflect on our current society and the challenges we face...I am more convinced than ever of the importance of Legatus

In the context of Legatus, I don’t think it’s coincidental that we find all three of these elements present at our monthly chapter meetings — rosary, Reconciliation and Mass.

Recently, I read one of the most beneficial books in a long time called The Lost Art of Listening.

About two years ago I received a call from Bill Simon recommending I meet a good friend of his. Bill talked about all the great work that Bob Buford had been doing and how much he thought I would enjoy meeting him.

The Legatus experience is full of many blessings and opportunities — opportunities to attend the Annual Summit, to go on pilgrimages, to have access to concierge health services, and the list goes on.

Hopefully you are aware of our new awards and recognition program. We had a great response from those who saw our displays at the Summit in January. I am excited about all the opportunities available to us through this program.

For some time I had been intending to gather a small group of Legatus members for a couple days of retreat. The idea was to hold it at a great venue, bring in some tremendous speakers, and make it a real personal experience.

Why is it important for Legatus to have and maintain specific membership criteria? This topic has come up regularly at Board of Governors meetings, and it’s something I thought long and hard about when founding Legatus in 1987.

June 4 was a historic day for Legatus. It was historic because it was the first time we have ever had two charterings on the same night. Hopefully, it will not be the last time!

Father John Riccardo, who many of you may be familiar with from his radio program, Christ is the Answer, recently gave a talk to Legatus’ Ann Arbor Chapter. He used his father as an example for Legatus.

I’m sure you have heard the old adage: It’s not just what you do, but how you do it! We all know this to be true, but sometimes we need to be reminded.

We all know Legatus’ mission — to study, live and spread our faith. Oftentimes when I am summarizing our mission, I simply say it is to help members become better Catholics.

From my experience and conversations with other Legatus members around the country, most of us are regularly approached (i.e., solicited) to contribute financially to many causes. I assume that most members are generous — especially toward Catholic and pro-life causes.

Throughout my life I have always been a ravenous reader. The topics of the books have changed over the years, but I’ve always found reading to be a tremendous means of expanding my horizons and broadening my knowledge on a variety of topics.

As many of you know, for the better part of my life I have been a proponent of staying fit. For me it started simply with my love of sports.
